ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Dean Ambrose is a senior at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, Connecticut, and the founder of Building for Nonprofits (BFN) where BFN reaches out to many nonprofit organizations offering to build them anything they desire, for free. Dean began the club after completing his Eagle Project where he led his troop in building 12 convertible picnic benches for the local nonprofit Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education (a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and teaching tennis to youth in low income communities). Dean wanted to scale and continue the impact he has on his community, so he pitched the club to his school and BFN is now one of the largest, if not the largest, club in the school. After a lot of communication and 3D sketches, Dean purchases the raw materials with the money the club fundraised. Dean then leads and teaches the other members of BFN through the building process. Not only has BFN built great connections with the nonprofits in its community, but it has also constructed a large storage desk for Filling in the Blanks (an organization that provides weekend meals to students on government-funded school meal programs), 20 Bluebird bird houses for the Darien Land Trust, three picnic tables for the Boys and Girls Club of Ridgefield, and a large storage shed for Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education. Dean greatly enjoys the responsibility that accompanies the role of the BFN President and being able to apply the leadership skills he has learned throughout his scouting journey. Dean plans on continuing the club post high school and serving his future communities.
